The Martlets Hospice

The MartletsThe Hospice offers expert and compassionate care. Our aim is to enhance the quality of life and ease the distress of patients suffering from cancer and other serious conditions and for whom curative treatment is no longer appropriate.

The Hospice operates on a full-time basis throughout the year. In-patient care and Martlets @ Home care is delivered on a 24-hour, 7-days a week basis. The Day Hospice operates Monday to Thursday each week, patient and family Bereavement Support is offered by appointment.

This website has been created to help you understand what it is the Martlets Hospice can offer our patients and their families. We have many services available to those who need us and pride ourselves on our understanding of what we can do for our patients to make their stay as comfortable as possible.

In-Patient Care
People are often surprised when they visit the Hospice to find such a welcoming and warm environment. They are reassured to find a very positive place with much laughter where care and support is extended to the whole family.

Medical Care
The Martlets used to care mainly for terminally ill cancer patients. Over the years the care that the Hospice provides has been made available to a far wider range of people, including those suffering from a number of other debilitating and life threatening conditions.

Education The Martlets Hospice is committed to constantly improving the quality of its services to patients and their relatives through an on-going programme of staff and volunteering training.

As a teaching hospice, the Martlets is also committed to offering high quality and relevant learning opportunities in palliative care to health professionals working in other settings.

Shops
From the 1st August the Martlets shops will be able to claim Gift Aid on items donated for sale in its charity shops. In real terms this means the Hospice will gain an extra 28p for every £1 the items donated are sold for, as long as the donor of the goods is a UK taxpayer.

Throughout the year the Martlets holds several fundraising events. By attending or supporting any of these events you will have fun and also raise important funds for the hospice.

Martlets Hospice Annual Review

The Martlets Hospice has published its Annual Review for 2006-2007. A pdf of the Annual Review can be downloaded here ......

During 2006-2007, the Martlets Hospice provided specialist palliative nursing care for 389 patients. Of these, 163 died at the Martlets Hospice and 79 people were supported to die at home.
